Happy Monday, faithful readers. Thanks for sticking with us while I was out with the latest strain of the black plague. Your continued patronage to our humble site is much appreciated.
A very interesting article has come to the surface over at 49ers.com, written up by the very lovely and talented Crissy Mauck.
Offensive coordinator Mike Martz apparently traveled to that Tahoe fundraiser the 49ers have every season (along with Manusky and Nolan) and took the opportunity to breakdown some of his plans for the 49ers offense for some of the fans that were in attendance.
Pretty standard stuff, except for the fact that Martz took the opportunity to hate on the Detroit Lions... again.
This is the second time Martz has bagged on the Lions when comparing them to the Niners. He did it back in January too after Nolan and Scotty gave him the coordinator's job.
I love hearing this from Martz. It continues to strengthen the generally-ignored notion (by the national media, anyway) that the 49ers have the talent to win a good amount of games in 2008.
If one actually kept up with the nuances 49ers 2007 season (unlike this guy, who goes out of his way to do both Smitty AND Hill no favors), it was pretty obvious that last year's squad was a pretty good team saddled by injuries, Trent Dilfer, inconsistent o-line play, and Jim Hostler. Of course, not that many football experts outside of San Francisco watched every game the 49ers played last season, so it was easy for them to call last year's team "awful" and be done with it.
But Martz believes otherwise, and that's why we're starting to love him more and more around here.
(Oh, and be sure to check this out. Your life will be better because of it. Trust me.)
